My name is Quin Woods (He/Him) and I am an American Studies student in the Master’s program at Trinity College (CT). I am originally from Lincoln, which is the capital city of Nebraska. Additionally, I work in the Recreation Department at Trinity College where I assist in the leadership development of students and provide support for members of the campus community who wish to stay active. A few of my hobbies include competitive rowing, backpacking, and cycling.
My primary area of interest is uncovering the intersections between the tourism industry and Indigenous history of northern Wisconsin, in the Chequamegon Bay region of Lake Superior. My family has been vacationing/living in this area ever since the late 1800s and have potentially influenced the tourist industry through the years. My research aims to better understand how tourism has impacted Indigenous relationships with the area.
During my undergraduate career at Trinity College, I was exposed to a wide range of classes, as part of the liberal arts tradition of the school. While pursuing my double major of American Studies and History, I found myself gravitating towards courses that focused on environmental history, Indigenous history, and Black history, all while thinking about ways in which these disciplines intersect with other fields of American Studies. The majority of my scholarship entailed writing analytical essays about assigned articles and books, however, as I entered higher-level classes, I was tasked with writing more research-based papers, where I had some leeway to what subjects I could focus on.
